About the Project

The Alternative Axis for Aswan Reservoir is one of the transverse axes that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has directed to be implemented in order to reduce the distances between the east and west Nile axes to 25 kilometres in order to serve development projects and new urban communities.
The axis transfers the traffic from the reservoir body to the new axis to maintain the reservoir and extend its lifespan. In addition to these, it is creating new development areas west of the Nile and linking the residential, industrial, and agricultural development areas east and west of the Nile, providing business opportunities, facilitating the movement of citizens, and serving development projects.
The axis will extend to the west to connect with Aswan LRT, and increase the efficiency of the road connecting east of the axis with Aswan-Baranees Road. The axis will link Aswan-Baranees Road to the Western Desert Road (Cairo-Aswan), crossing the River Nile, and the Western Agricultural Road (Cairo-Aswan) and linking to Aswan/Abu Simbel.
The project's total cost is L.E 1.957 billion. It is 4.5 km long and 29 m wide, with 3 lanes in each direction. The axis consists of 3 industrial works (2 bridges and a tunnel), including a bridge on the Nile with a length of 2050 m, in addition to the tunnel and bridge on the western desert road. Besides, road works with a length of 3.3 km.
The Arab Contractors Company, under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport, is implementing the second sector of the alternative axis for Aswan reservoir. It consists of a concrete bridge on the Nile; 14 axes, with a length of 676m and a width of 29m. It has 3 lanes on each side, and the opening of the navigation is 180m wide.
