About the Project

It is the first hydraulic bridge for heavy transport and containers in Port Said and aims to facilitate the navigation movement of the Suez Canal on one of its tributaries, coming from and to the customs area in Port Said. The bridge was designed to include a navigational span that can be opened and closed. The bridge is 136 m long and 15 m wide, with 2 traffic lanes in each direction. It consists of 7 foundations resting on piles, with a total of 78 piles (18 on land and 60 at sea). The bridge is made up of 6 steel spans, 3 spans each 22 m long, and 3 spans each 20 m long. The hinged steel span is raised and lowered by automatic hydraulic jacks as well as manually. The lifting angle of the hinged steel span reaches 70 degrees to achieve a 12.7-meter width and a 12-meter height for the passage of ships.
