Arab Contractors
The Arab Contractors designed and executed the project in a consortium with the French company S.G.E and the Japanese company, Mitsui. The harbour is composed of 18 quays and is built on an area of 2 700 acres . The draft is about 12 to 15m . The harbour capacity reaches 17 million tons annually, thus saving L.E 12 millions annually as transfer costs. The project is mainly the excavation and the protection of a main canal , with three Km length and 300 m width. Also, there is another smaller navigation canal which connects the Mediterranean Sea with the River Nile, its length is five km and its width is 100m, its draft is 5 meters.
