Dr. Ayman El-Shahaby, Governor of Damietta, inaugurated the newly renovated Military Street in Damietta City, a project undertaken by the Arab Contractors Company as part of the governorate's investment plan. The inauguration coincided with the October War celebrations. The street holds a long history and was named Military Street due to its historical use for transporting military equipment during the war. The inauguration was attended by Engineer Shaimaa El-Siddiq, Deputy Governor of Damietta; Engineer Rami Mokhtar, Director of the North Delta Branch of the Arab Contractors Company; Engineer Tarek Badawy, Director of the Roads Directorate; and Mr. Samir Atrees, Head of the Local Unit of Damietta City and District. The Arab Contractors Company renovated Military Street, starting from the Damietta Corniche and extending to its intersection with the Azbet El-Lahm Road, passing by the Specialized Hospital. The street is 1 km long in each direction, with each direction now 8 to 9 meters wide, divided into two 3.5-meter-wide lanes and a shoulder, bringing the total road width to approximately 20 meters, including sidewalks. The project included breaking up and removing worn-out asphalt and pavement layers, lowering and adjusting utility levels (water lines, drainage lines, electricity cables, telephone cables, and gas lines) below design levels, lowering or raising the roofs of sewage manholes and water chambers, excavation work, grading, asphalt and sidewalk work (curbs and interlocking pavers), stormwater drainage work, traffic marking with paint, and street lighting. This project represents another success for the governorate in the roads sector, given its crucial importance in improving services for citizens, enhancing road efficiency, and ensuring the highest levels of safety for road users.
