During the visit, the Governor and his accompanying delegation inspected the Abu Ramad Fishing Port project. Eng. Mohamed Mahmoud Abdel Hamid, Project Manager, explained that the project aims to plan and implement specialized fishing ports that contribute to the development of the area, given its strategic importance as a hub for trade exchange between Egypt and Sudan. The establishment of the fishing ports in Abu Ramad and Shalateen is also considered a continuation of the overall development of the region, promoting increased residential presence and enhancing fishing efficiency through the provision of modern fish processing and refrigeration facilities. The project also supports tourism and urban development in the southern region and is expected to create more than 1,500 job opportunities in processing, refrigeration, and port services. The project spans an area of 150,000 square meters and includes a T-shaped marine jetty measuring 288 × 200 meters, with a berth depth of 5–6 meters, allowing it to accommodate approximately 80 vessels, in addition to service buildings. The Governor praised the quality of execution and the efforts exerted by the Arab Contractors Company in implementing these projects. He also inaugurated the seawater desalination plant in Halaib, with a capacity of 4,500 m³/day. Eng. Emad El-Maraghy, Project Manager, stated that the project (Phase I and II) consists of a desalination plant with a capacity of 4,500 m³/day and a seawater intake with a capacity of 20,000 m³/day. It includes two HDPE intake pipelines of 900 mm diameter, each 1,000 meters in length, with two concrete intake structures at their ends, as well as two HDPE return pipelines of 800 mm diameter, each 600 meters long. The project also comprises general site works and electromechanical works (including generators and equipment to increase production capacity), in addition to a water pumping station and a storage tank with a capacity of 5,000 m³.
