The High Dam is one of the largest and most important projects in Egypt. The project represents a unique technical and administrative challenge and provides electricity to nearly half of Egypt's population, in addition to creating a huge water reservoir behind the dam. This reservoir has protected Egypt from the dangers of drought, such as the one that struck Africa in the late 1980s. It has also led to an increase in Egypt's income from agricultural production.
