The longest and largest bridge in Egypt, measuring 18.705 kilometers long and ranging in width from 14 to 34 meters, includes 23 ramps and descents with a width of 7 to 8 meters. Seven phases were implemented, from Dokki to Ghamra, and the eighth phase reaches the highway. All phases were completed without disrupting river navigation on both branches of the Nile. The latest technological methods were applied in its construction, some of which were firsts in Egypt, such as:
- Dragging the caissons on a sling to the Nile, floating them, and towing them to designated locations for the erection of supports under the Nile bed.
- Implementing the superstructure without tensioning that would impede traffic underneath, especially over squares and railway crossings, using a beam and trolley system.
- Supporting columns rise between 9 and 22 meters on precast pile foundations (Vibro, Benito, Franke, and Raymond) at depths ranging from 18 to 28 meters underground.
