Eng. Sherif El Sherbiny - Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, congratulated officials of Arab Contractors on winning 5 prestigious awards at the 2025 ENR (Engineering News-Record) Best Global Projects Awards, including Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant and Dam (JNHPP) Project in Tanzania, which won the Best Global Project Award in Water/Wastewater Category, amidst strong competition from major projects worldwide, for the fifth consecutive year. The Minister stated that the Arab Contractors Company is one of the key development arms of the Ministry of Housing, serving as a model for strengthening cooperation between Egypt and its fellow African nations through the transfer of expertise in the construction sector and joint efforts to achieve shared development goals. He added that this new global achievement adds to the company’s long record of success, reaffirming that the Arab Contractors stands as a symbol of quality, engineering excellence, and national commitment. Eng. Sherif El Sherbiny affirmed the company's continued full support to expand its projects, especially those implemented in cooperation with our brothers in African countries. He pointed out that the Arab Contractors Company is Egypt's best ambassador abroad and one of the mechanisms for linking Egypt to the African continent and cooperating with its countries. Eng. Ahmed El Assar - Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, stated that this achievement reflects the strength and excellence of Egyptian expertise and its leadership in the fields of construction and building at the international level. He emphasized that the company’s continued success and the consecutive awards it receives are the result of collective effort and a unified national commitment. He added that this year’s recognition reaffirms the ability of national companies to compete in global markets and deliver mega projects that meet international standards. He emphasized that these awards are a global recognition of the Egyptian engineer and worker, affirming that the Arab Contractors will remain an ambassador of Egyptian engineering excellence. It is worth noting that for the first time in its history, the company has won 2 awards for its projects in Africa, confirming its position as one of the largest and most reputable contracting companies in Africa, the Middle East and the world. The winning projects for 2025 including Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant and Dam (JNHPP) Project in Tanzania, which won the Best Global Project Award in Water/Wastewater Category and is affiliated with Tanzanian Ministry of Energy and TANESCO. It was implemented by a JV of the Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric under the supervision of the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities. It received regular follow up from the political leadership as a pivotal development project in our sister nation, Tanzania. The project is one of the largest national projects in Africa, aiming to generate 2,115 megawatts of electricity to meet Tanzania's energy needs and control the flow of Rufiji River throughout the year to reduce flooding. New Alamein City Tourist Promenade, located in New Alamein City, Egypt also won the Award of Merit in the Sports/Entertainment Category. The project is affiliated with the New Urban Communities Authority - Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities. The project is one of the most prominent landmarks of New Alamein City, and an icon of the 4th generation of modern Egyptian cities on the northwest coast. The promenade extends 7 km (1st phase) and can be extended to 14 km, and is the city's distinctive tourist destination. The project includes the construction of 2 bridges over the lakes and a pedestrian bridge in strait (3) and (4), works to form the sides of the lakes, and the construction of the main gates of the city, in addition to high-end civil and architectural finishing works that made the promenade a destination for visitors and residents throughout the year. The third project is the restoration of the historic Zeinab Khatoun Residence, located in Cairo, which won the Best Project Award in the Renovation/Restoration Category. It was implemented in cooperation between the Ministries of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities and the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. It is a Mamluk architectural masterpiece that has been brought back to life. The company implemented meticulous restoration and repurposing work to transform the historic house into a multi-purpose cultural center, while fully preserving its historical character. Saaka Road and Bridge, located in Pallisa District, Uganda, also received the Award of Merit in Road/Highway Category. The project is affiliated with Uganda National Road Authority “UNRA”. This strategic project connects eastern Ugandan cities, crossing swampy terrain over Mpologoma River, which frequently caused seasonal floods. It was constructed based on the instructions of the Ugandan President. The company rushed the project and completed it 11 months ahead of schedule, thus saving the lives of citizens and restoring vital transportation. Suez Canal International Museum, located in Ismailia, Egypt received the Award of Merit in Renovation/Restoration Category. The project is affiliated with the Suez Canal Authority. It is a revival of the first administrative building of the Suez Canal and its transformation into an international museum documenting the history of the canal from its opening in 1869 until the opening of the New Suez Canal.
